Here are some of the most common errors and misunderstandings faced by our users when migrating their old Jaxx Classic wallet to Jaxx Liberty.
1. I can't send from Jaxx Classic
Yes, that is normal as we have discontinued the old version of the Jaxx Wallet and it is no longer functional. Not only sending but also fetching new wallet information such as the wallet balance or transaction history will not function correctly and will be outdated. Migrate to Jaxx Liberty to resolve all these issues.
2. My balances are zero in Jaxx Liberty after migrating. No Transaction history either.
When migrating to Jaxx Liberty with your Jaxx Classic 12-word Backup Phrase, all the digital assets you had in Jaxx Classic will show up in Jaxx Liberty, or at least the trace of them through the transaction history.
If there is no transaction history and no balance in any of your wallets when using Jaxx Liberty, this simply means that the 12-word Backup Phrase you used when restoring the wallet interface in Jaxx Liberty, is not the one you had in Jaxx Classic when you could see the balances.
This may seem surprising at first but know that all of your wallet
The 12 word Backup Phrase is generated on your device the first time you create a new wallet. It uses an industry-standard called BIP39 that we and most other crypto wallets are using.
The way things work is that the 12 words phrase created is used to mathematically generate all your wallet accounts. This is a mathematical process that can be replicated and that renders the same results every time, without fail.
If you have the correct 12 words, then the wallet accounts (keys) generated from those 12 words would include the addresses you had assets in. If the words you have right now are not generating those addresses, this unequivocally means that this is not the original 12 words that were in the wallet at the time you saw those balances. This is the clear proof given by the fact that there are no balances and not even any transactions in the history of the wallets.
3. I don't have my original Jaxx Classic 12-word Backup Phrase. I lost/changed the device with that app. What can I do?
The 12-word Backup Phrase, which is your main wallet security information, like the password to your bank account, is randomly generated on your device when you first created your wallet. That phrase is securely stored only on your device and it never leaves it, we never have it stored on any of our servers. The only place your 12-word Backup Phrase is stored is on your device and nowhere else.
Please know that for your security, we do not store private information for our users' wallets on any of our servers. Jaxx Liberty is created to follow the general crypto ethos where only the user has full control over their digital assets. Your wallet security information (12 words Backup Phrase & Private Keys) is never stored on any of our servers and we don't have a centralized way of managing access to the users' wallets/accounts because of that. We cannot recover your wallet phrase.
One way of recovering your wallet could be if you paired your Jaxx Classic or Liberty Wallet on another device, you can get the 12-word Backup Phrase from that one.
Unfortunately, if you did not pair your Jaxx wallet on any other devices and did not save a copy of your backup phrase, you may have lost access to your wallet.
Alternatively, if you have the Private Key for one of your wallet addresses that has a balance, you can create a brand new wallet and then use the MENU > Tools > Import Paper Wallet option to transfer that balance to the new wallet you crested. Individual Private Keys only give you access to one wallet address at a time.
