Here are some common errors and misunderstandings users encountered when migrating old Jaxx Classic wallet to Jaxx Liberty.
1. I can't send from Jaxx Classic
Yes, that is normal as we discontinued the old version of the Jaxx Wallet and it is no longer functional. Please migrate to Jaxx Liberty.
2. My balances are zero in Jaxx Liberty after migrating. No transaction history either.
When migrating to Jaxx Liberty with your Jaxx Classic 12-word backup phrase, all the digital assets you had in Jaxx Classic will show up in Jaxx Liberty (or at least the trace of them through the transaction history).
If there is no transaction history and no balance in any of your wallets when using Jaxx Liberty, this means that the 12-word backup phrase you used when restoring the wallet interface in Jaxx Liberty is not the one you had in Jaxx Classic when you could see the balances.
Understanding 12-word Backup Phrases
Your 12-word backup phrase is generated on your device the first time you create a new wallet using an industry standard called BIP39.
This 12-word backup phrase is used to mathematically generate all your wallet accounts (coins and tokens). This is a mathematical process that can be replicated. It renders the same results every time, without fail.
- If you have the correct 12-word backup phrase, then the wallet accounts (known as keys) generated from those 12 words would include the addresses you have assets in.
- If the 12-word backup phrase you’ve input not generating the address you have assets in, this unequivocally means that it is not the original 12-word backup phrase that was in the wallet at the time you saw the expected balance. The fact you have no balances and no transactions in the history of the wallet proves that all transactions are linked to 12-word backup phrases and permanently visible on the blockchain.
3. I don't have my original Jaxx Classic 12-word Backup Phrase. I lost/changed the device with that app. What can I do?
Your 12-word backup phrase is your wallet’s main security information, like the password to your bank account. It is randomly generated on your device when you first create your wallet, but unlike a password to a bank account, it is never stored on any of our servers. For your security, the only place your 12-word backup phrase is stored is on your device and nowhere else.
Jaxx Liberty is a non-custodial wallet, which means we do not store private information for our users' wallets on any of our servers. Jaxx Liberty follows the general crypto ethos where only the user has full control over their digital assets. Your wallet security information (12-words backup phrase & private keys) is never stored on any of our servers and because of that, we don't have a centralized way of managing access to the users' wallets/accounts. We cannot recover your wallet phrase.
Did you pair your wallet on another device?
If you paired your Jaxx Classic or Liberty Wallet on another device, you can get the 12-word backup phrase from that one.
Unfortunately, if you did not pair your Jaxx wallet on any other devices and did not save a copy of your backup phrase, you may have lost access to your wallet.
Using Private Keys to Create a New Wallet
Alternatively, if you have the private key for one of your wallet addresses that has a balance, you can create a brand new wallet and then use the MENU > Tools > Import Paper Wallet option to transfer that balance to the new wallet you created. Individual private keys only give you access to one wallet address at a time.
